Conductor & Violinist
Musicologist and violinist, the first Arab woman to conduct an orchestra, carrying Middle Eastern musical heritage to the world's greatest stages.
أمل القرمازي
Biography
Trained as a musicologist at the Sorbonne University in Paris and a classically trained violinist, Amal Guermazi has spent her career bridging two worlds: the discipline of Western composition and the melodic richness of Arab musical heritage.
In 2019, she became Artistic Director and Conductor of Mazzika Orchestra — a turning point that took the ensemble to international stages, from Paris to New York, Kuwait to Los Angeles. Guided by her vision, classics of the Arab repertoire — Oum Kalthoum, Fairouz, Abdel Halim — are reimagined for full orchestra, introducing this music to audiences experiencing it this way for the first time.
Her dual academic and stage mastery has earned rare recognition: a cover feature in Madame Figaro Arabia, appearances on France 24, LBCI and Al Arabiya, and a reputation for having turned Arab music into a universal language.
"Guided by her vision, Arab music became a universal language."
— Madame Figaro Arabia
Journey
A deep theoretical foundation that informs every arrangement — a scholarly reading of the Arab repertoire, faithful to its modal roots.
A classically trained violinist, her presence on stage as a soloist remains the emotional signature of every Mazzika concert.
At the helm of Mazzika Orchestra since 2019, she conducts an ensemble of 40+ musicians through a fully reorchestrated repertoire.
